Leeds Professionals Fashion Show Ball!

Last week saw Accent Clothing take part in the Professionals Fashion Show Ball in Leeds.

The show which is in its 14th year was held on Friday 11th May at the Royal Armouries and was to raise money for three local charities; Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Once Upon a Child and Cash for Kids and. Firmly established within the Yorkshire business community the black tie event continues to grow year after year. Approximately 400 attended and took part in the event from the banks, law firms, accountancy firms, property, media and retail.

The evening kicked off with a red carpet drinks reception and soon after everyone was shepherded into the main room for the three course celebratory dinner; the fashion show followed.

Accent Clothing, along with other big retailers such as Harvey Nichols, Reiss and French Connection showcased the latest fashion trends for Spring/Summer 12 on the runway. The sizzling 10 scene catwalk show was split into two parts with the Model Employee Awards and Charity Prize Draw in between. Everyone threw themselves into the show and even the models were men and women who worked in the attending firms; transformed by Saks salon and Boots they looked fantastic.

For Accent Clothing’s scene they focused on occasion wear and showcased local brands such as Kevan Jon, Ewa Domanska and Forever Unique for the ladies and Remus, J.Lindeberg, Replay and Anthony Morato for the men. The scene was mixed male and female and the choreographing was modern and sexy, ending powerfully with Beyonce’s song ‘Run the World’. The Jolaby at Accent Clothing scene then followed with the girls all dressed in dresses from Jolaby available at Accent Clothing. The show ended with an energetic finale when all the organisers and everyone who was involved came on stage and people got one more glimpse of the attire from Accent Clothing.

The night didn’t end there though the disco followed with a bang and when that all that is over there was a VIP after-show party hosted by Oracle. The event was organised by Lisa Crampton and was a huge success and Accent Clothing was very glad to be a part of it.

Joanne Wood, General Manager at Accent Clothing stated ‘We were delighted to be supporting such a worthy cause; as a local business we think it is important to do all we can for local charities. We look forward to next year’s event.’

Accent Clothing would like to thank all the brands; Paige, Nudie, Monkee, Replay, Cruyff, Remus and Lyle and Scott who donated items for the Charity Grand Prize draw. It was very generous of them. Thanks go to Drew and Rachel Bleakley who were behind stage helping dress the models and style for the Accent Clothing scene.

Ewan McGregor for Belstaff!

Ewan McGregor is reportedly set to star in a new advertising campaign for Belstaff. This makes us very happy!!!

The hunky Scottish actor will soon begin shooting the advertisement in the UK for the label’s fall collection. Craig McDean will be shooting the advertisement at Goodwood – an estate in West Sussex known for its annual Festival of Speed motor racing competition.

Ewan is an ambassador for the fashion house and its motorcycle range of leather jackets. As everyone who is a fan of Ewan will know the 41-year-old star is an avid motorcyclist which he has proved in his travel documentaries with best friend Charley Boorman. In 2004 they embarked on a marathon international motorcycle trip from London to New York, via central Europe, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia, Russia and Canada. What a trip! Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman even worked with Belstaff to create a new, exclusive model, called “Long Way Down Jacket” for their LONG WAY DOWN challenge, riding their bikes from Scotland down to South Africa, covering a distance of over 15,000 miles. The jacket was made of three different components, allowing the two men to tackle all the many weather extremes they’d face from start to finish.

Accent Clothing has a large range of Belstaff jackets and accessories available instore and online for men, women and junior. See them here http://www.accentclothing.com/belstaff

The new Belstaff advertisement will break in the September issues of Vogue, W, Bazaar and GQ.We can’t wait to see the pictures!

‘Out of Africa’

Last night saw the launch event of the Fashion label Umoja with its first collection: ‘Out Of Africa’, at Toast Bar in Leeds!

A few of us from Accent Clothing went down to see this new fashion line and we were not disappointed.

First a little bit of history of the new and emerging brand…

Umoja was recently started by young fashion designer Victoria Huges who graduated last year from the University of Central Lancashire with a degree in Fashion Design. Umoja’s first collection, ‘Out of Africa’ is clearly Africa inspired. It was a 2month stint in Tanzania, Africa that brought about the inspiration for this collection and for the brand itself. Experiencing the culture not only started to inspire the fashion student on future designs but on the also on the idea of using fashion to empower people. In the little village of Moshi under the unbearable heat of the sun Victoria witnessed women of all ages perched along the sides of the street with their sewing machines trying to make a living using their dress making skills, and suddenly the idea of creating employment for some of these skilled women linked quickly with the dream, of creating a new fashion label with a conscience.

‘Fashion is not and never has been about clothes, its about the people’ (Watson.L, 2004)

Victoria aims to make Umoja a fashion label that not only sells fabulous pieces to us in the western world but that empowers and provides not only jobs but housing for people living in extreme poverty in Africa. The Umoja collection we saw at the show was manufactured by Soko. Soko was set up in 2009 by Joanna Maiden, and aims to be a link between the international fashion industry and the community of Ukunda in Kenya; through making beautiful clothes Soko provides fair employment to the impoverished community.

At the launch event the female models exhibited 3 pieces each from the current collection and they all looked great. The neon tribal make-up was done by Molly Payne and looked fantastic combined with the messy back-combed hair dos. The models also wore jewelry by Elixir, Accessory Design, we would definitely recommend checking out their jewellery range if you like it big and unique!

The clothes worn did not display a stereotypical hand crafted style, and Umoja states it is not totally based on ethical products; but it clearly is contributing to breaking the cycle of poverty within disadvantaged communities. High quality clothes have been produced, made in Africa.

Starting small but aiming big is Umoja and we wish Victoria and the brand all the best and we hope it does well!

…she is a ‘Wildfox’!

“She is the Native heart, she is all neon light, she is a love child; she is a WILDFOX.”

Here at Accent Clothing we have welcomed the arrival of the new kidswear brand ‘Wildfox’!

Wildfox Couture is an American vintage-inspired brand which predominantly for started out for women. Emily Faulstitch and Kimberly Gordon are the creative force behind Wildfox; inspired by sleepovers, beautiful books, fairies, dreams, vintage t-shirts, and their friendship, the young designers gave birth to a brand based on love and having fun!

The brand was officially established in Los Angeles in 2007. Known for its soft fabrics and unique designs, the line has progressed into a full knit range of tops, bottoms, dresses, scarves, socks, and denim, as well as a White Label collection of knit sweaters, lace and chiffons. With continued growth and success of the women’s line, a kids division called Wildfox Kids was created and is now with us at Accent Clothing!

This Kids wear collection is to die for! Each item has a cute illustration or design making it unique. They are great gift ideas for your little daughter, niece or sister.
